I was a Multimedia Journalist for the Lynnwood Times, a small news outlet in Snohomish County, WA, from 2020 to 2022.

During my time as a journalist, I covered all sorts of stories, from city council meetings to Covid-19 reports. I felt the most in my element when creating the monthly food segments called “Local Eats Spotlights.” The idea behind starting the segment was to highlight small business owners and share the story behind the shop. For every business I highlighted, I would create a multimedia package comprised of an article, video, and some photos.

I was very new to the videography/photography field when I first began putting these stories together, so I remain grateful for all the experience I gained. Here are some of my favorite work samples from my time with the Lynnwood Times.

Brianna’s Cafe

A family-owned American Diner in Marysville, WA.

I thoroughly enjoyed having two interview subjects in this video. It put the interviewees at ease and made for a lot of fun interactions. This video has 13k views on Facebook.

Brooklyn Bros. Pizzeria

A delicious New York-style pizza shop in Everett, WA.

I did not choose this cover photo for this YouTube video; I unfortunately look like a dweeb. This video’s great because it captures Johnny showcasing his pizza knowledge. I learned a lot about lighting from creating this piece. This video has 5k views on Facebook.

Barkada Edmonds

A Hawaiin-Filipino fusion restaurant in Edmonds, WA.

Barkada serves absolutely delicious food. I had a lot of fun shooting this video; however, some days are harder than others when it comes to being on camera, so I’m glad my wife came along to support me. This video has nearly 3k views on Facebook and over 20k views on YouTube.

Cut by Curt

After a life-changing diagnosis, Curtis Gregory opens his own woodworking business.

This video wasn’t my most professional. I created it during a time when my video editing skills outpaced my videography skills. However, this story is so compelling to me that I wanted to showcase it here. It’s really the story of how life-saving discovering one’s passion, or even one’s calling, in life can be. This video has over 6k views on Facebook.

Lynnwood Time’s Podcast Series

In 2022, staffing shortages among law enforcement offices were a serious issue in Snohomish County. While local news outlets attempted to paint a picture in a single broad stroke with cherry-picked statistics, I thought it would be more valuable to interview various chiefs of police to hear directly from the source about the current staffing situations of their specific office. I conducted these interviews, as well as recorded and edited them. I also wrote and recorded the music.
